“You can even register a pay-off as a trade mark”

Interview with Bas ter Schure,
Marketing and Productmanager at Den Braven

What does Den Braven do?
“Den Braven is a manufacturer of a variety of sealants, adhesives and polyurethane foams. You will find our eight manufacturing plants around the world. We also have 26 own branches, mainly in Europe but also in South Africa, South America and Dubai. Den Braven was founded more than 40 years ago. The company began with the production of putty and grew with the market demands over the years. Den Braven experienced significant growth and was transferred to a private equity fund in 2010.”

“It started with putty and today we produce many sealant and adhesive technologies”

How do you keep a good overview of the brands?
“We also want to grow in terms of brand awareness. Den Braven makes a very clear distinction between the respective channels of trade. For both the do-it-yourself channels and the market for professionals we register our brands and product names worldwide. Bakker & Verkuijl organises this. Not just the trademark registrations, but also the checks to see if the brand is available for use in the market and if it is, we can have it registered “

What does your collaboration look like?
“When I started at Den Braven four years ago, the world of registering trademarks was completely new to me. Bakker & Verkuijl relieves us tremendously in that area. Today, even our slogan Better results through knowledge, is registered. We have monthly meetings to discuss current affairs, the problems we encounter and the opportunities and threats in the market. We look into new entrants, especially from Asia, who wish to copy the strong brand with the swallow. Thanks to our collaboration with Bakker & Verkuijl we are able to prevent this.”
